GSPE PDH Day – Paving the Road to ME

After considering the reasons for chariots sinking, Napoleon tasked his engineers with reinforcing the muddy soils with stones, tree limbs, and other debris to facilitate his plan to take over the world.

In more modern history, engineers built a test road of different pavement structures and drove trucks around in a Nascar-ish loop until the drivers got dizzy or the pavement failed.

But as science and scientific methodology advanced, pavement design moved to include mechanistic predictions aligned with empirical knowledge.

Improvements in technology, methodology, and expectations of better performance are reflected in improved return on investment.  This mechanistic-empirical design approach lets pavement engineers become better stewards of the taxpayer dollar.

This presentation will offer the drone level view of GDOT’s Road to ME – preparing the foundation for the AASHTOWare PMED software implementation.
